Bartender Everybody knows that when a wizard settles down, he has two choices. He can build a tower and start researching, but this separates him from the rest of the populace, and when the lynch mobs come knocking at his door led by high level adventurers, this starts to be painful. It also hurts when the wizard fails to notice the invading army until it's almost too late to start preparations. Some wizards absolutely cannot do without their contacts and constant flow of information. These wizards open a tavern and take up the fine art of tending bar. This path is not for all, but for those wizards who are willing to do a brisk trade in potions, alcohol, and information, the bartending business is quite rewarding. Requirements: To qualify to become a Bartender (Bar), a character must fulfull all the following criteria. Spellcasting: Ability to cast 2nd-level arcane spells. Skills: Gather Information 3 ranks, Profession: Bartender 6 ranks, Alchemy 6 ranks. Feats: Brew Potion Class Skills: The Bartender's class skills(and the key ability for each skill) are Alchemy(Int), Concentration(Con), Craft(Int), Diplomacy(Cha), Gather Information(Cha), Knowledge(All)(Int), Innuendo(Wis), Listen(Wis), Pick Pockets(Dex), Profession(Wis), Read Lips(Int), Scry(Int), Sense Motive(Wis), Spellcraft(Int), Spot(Wis). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int Modifier Class Base Fort Ref Will Level Attack Save Save Save Special Spells Per Day 1 +0 +0 +0 +2 Listening Ear +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 2 +1 +0 +0 +3 Mixed Drinks 1 +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 3 +1 +1 +1 +3 Drink Feat +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 4 +2 +1 +1 +4 Mixed Drinks 2 +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 5 +2 +1 +1 +4 Tavern +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class Class Features All the following are class features of the Bartender prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Bartenders gain no proficiency in any weapon or armor. Spells per Day: A Bartender's spare time focuses on magic. Thus, when a character gains a new level of Bartender, she gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in whatever spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improed chance of controlling or turning undead, metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). If the character had more than one spellcasting class before she became a Bartender, she must decide to which class she adds each level of Bartender for purposes of determining spells per day when she adds the new level. Listening Ear: Bartenders have a way of listening to everything that happens in their general area, and an open, guileless manner that invites people to tell them everything. The Bartender gains a +2 bonus on Gather Information checks. This bonus increases to +4 if the Bartender is currently tending bar in a tavern or inn. Mixed Drinks 1: Bartenders discover not only how to mix alcoholic drinks, but also how to mix potions. The Bartender may mix a potion with two separate effects. When calculating cost, calculate the cost of each potion separately, double the cost of the least expensive, and add to get the market price. Thus, a Potion of Endure Elements (Level 1) and Endurance (Level 3), would have a market price of 300 GP + 2 * 50 GP = 400 GP, and a brewing cost of 200 GP and 16 XP. Drink Feat: At level 3, the Bartender discovers a single metamagic feat for which he meets the prerequisites. This feat may not be used normally. Instead, it may be applied to any potion the Bartender brews without raising the level of the spell being brewed. Mixed Drinks 2: At level 4, the Bartender has increased his master of mixing drinks so that he may blend three effects into a single potion. The price is calculated like the price of Mixed Drinks 1, each extra spell costing double its normal cost. Tavern: At level 5, the Bartender gains ownership of a tavern, if he does not already own one. If he does own one, it is upgraded to an inn, and if he already owns an inn, it is upgraded to a way station. If he already owns a way station, he gains no further bonus.
