Mixmaster There's a newfangled trend sweeping the bardic community, one that has the bards of the old schools up in arms. Instead of playing the old songs like they've been passed down for ages, the young'ns are taking new instruments and magic and using them to _alter_ the old songs! They're making them fast, repeating parts, adding new beats, mixing songs, and generally making a mockery of bardic tradition. These new bards call themselves, "Mixmasters," because much of what they do involves mixing parts from one song into another song, which, as any REAL bard will tell you, is absolute BUNK. Requirements: To qualify to become a Mixmaster (Mix), a character must fulfull all the following criteria. Skills: Perform(Mixing) 8 ranks Feats: Any one Metamagic feat. Special: Bardic Music 5/day Class Skills: The Mixmaster's class skills(and the key ability for each skill) are Balance(Dex), Bluff(Cha), Concentration(Con), Craft(Int), Decipher Script(Int), Diplomacy(Cha), Disguise(Cha), Escape Artist(Dex), Gather Information(Cha), Jump(Str), Knowledge(All)(Int), Listen(Wis), Perform(Cha), Profession(Wis), Speak Language(Int), Spellcraft(Int), Tumble(Dex), Use Magic Device(Cha). Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int Modifier Class Base Fort Ref Will Level Attack Save Save Save Special Spells Per Day 1 +0 +2 +2 +2 Mix 1, +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class Anti-Tradition Bardic Music 2 +1 +3 +3 +3 Metamix +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 3 +2 +3 +3 +3 Mix 2 +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 4 +3 +4 +4 +4 Metamix +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class 5 +3 +4 +4 +4 Megamix +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class Class Features All the following are class features of the Mixmaster prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Mixmasters gain no proficiency in any weapon or armor. Spells per Day: A Mixmaster's spare time focuses on magic. Thus, when a character gains a new level of Mixmaster, she gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in whatever spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improed chance of controlling or turning undead, metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). If the character had more than one spellcasting class before she became a Mixmaster, she must decide to which class she adds each level of Mixmaster for purposes of determining spells per day when she adds the new level. Mix 1: The Mixmaster specializes in mixing multiple types of music into a harmonious whole. This ability allows the Mixmaster to use up two Bardic Song uses to create an extra Bardic Song effect for the normal duration. Thus, a Level 5 Bard/Level 1 Mixmaster could use three Bardic Song uses to create both an Inspire Courage effect and a Countersong. Bardic Music: Mixmasters continue to accumulate Bardic Music uses at the rate of one use per day per level. Anti-Tradition: Mixmasters make a mockery of the traditional musical schools. The magic items Fochluchan Bandore, Mac-Fuirmidh Cithern, Doss Lute, Canaith Mandolin, Cli Lyre, Anstruth Harp, and Ollamh Harp will never work for a Mixmaster, and merely carrying one will cause the item to give the user a negative level, as per the item description in Magic of Faerun(Page 161). Metamix: At second and fourth levels, the Mixmaster may choose a single Metamagic feat which she already possesses. This metamagic feat may then be used spontaneously without increasing the casting time of the spell. Mix 2: At level three, the Mixmaster can spend an additional two uses of Bardic Song to include a third Bardic Song effect in her mix. Megamix: At fifth level, the Mixmaster has mastered the mixing of music to such an extent that she may now cast spells while using Bardic Song, and the Spellcraft DC to identify these spells is +10.
