Distinctions:

Dangerous Allure (Fire) You always make an impression, and NPCs remember your name and face after interacting with you for one or more scenes (unless you take pains to disguise yourself). When performing a check for which your good looks are a benefit (such as a Command [Fire] check to get someone to act in spite of the possible consequences or a Performance [Fire] check to incite emotion in someone), you may reroll up to two dice.

Mysterious Visions(Void) You are occasionally beset by mysterious prophetic visions. Sometimes they're right, sometimes they're very, very wrong. They seem more accurate when you're actually divining, though.

When performing a check to divine information your senses cannot, such as a Theology[Void] check to divine someone's future or a Sentiment[Void] check to divine someone's hidden emotions, you may reroll up to two dice.

Adversities:

Small Stature (Earth) You are not very tall...! When you make a check to like, reach a high shelf or see over something over the heads of a crowd, you must choose and reroll two dice containing or . After resolving the check, if you failed, you gain 1 Void point.

Passions:

Fortune Telling (Void) You can identify any common portents (such as constellations and other stellar phenomena, the cracks in oracle bones, the appearance of certain animals, and various other signs of things to come), along with their implications for the future. $ After performing a check to discern the future (such as a Survival [Void] check to look for small omens in your earthly environs or a Theology [Void] check to perform a divination by reading the stars), you remove 3 strife.

Anxieties:

Omen of Bad Luck (Water) Omens of bad luck seem to follow you wher- ever you go. Even if bad luck rarely befalls you, others see these signs and tend to respond negatively to them (and to you). After performing a check to interact with some- one (such as a Commerce [Water] check to trade for goods with a superstitious merchant or a Government [Water] check to gather information from people who have witnessed one of your bad omens), you receive 3 strife. If this is the first time this has occurred this scene, gain 1 Void point.

Fear of Heights

You have an irrational fear of heights. Any time you are up precariously high, you get 3 strife. If it's the first time it happened this turn, you get 1 Void point.

Outfit

Traveling clothes, ceremonial clothes, wakizashi, tea set, divination kit, blanket, bowl, chopsticks, four days of travel rations, flint and tinder, sweets (4), pillow book, rokugani pony, pet cat, telescope, like 2 koku, omamori from nozomi-shrine, small crystal knife

Boon of Nozomi: Nozomi is the Fortune of Impossible Dreams and watches over underdogs and those who strive for the impossible. Once per game session, after rolling dice, the wearer may spend 1 Void Point to change a single die rolled to show a face showing :explosive_success: , but only on a roll for which the base TN is higher than their rolled Ring.

20 Questions

What Clan do you belong to?

 Crane (+1 Air, +1 Culture)

2. What Family do you belong to? Ra'Shari Ancestry (Asahina Vassal Family) (+1 Void, +1 Theology, +1 Commerce)

I was born in Medinaat al Salaam. Don't really have clear memories, though. Raised voices, packing hastily, leaving in the middle of the night, though? And I remember my parents trying really hard to keep me from being terrified of whatever it was we were fleeing. And then I remember making it to safe refuge with Dad's family--and Mom and Dad weren't there anymore, and nobody would say why, and I still don't know.

3. What is your character’s school?

Ra’Shari Seer (+1 Void, +1 Air)

4. How does your character stand out within their school:

Passion (+1 Fire) I want to follow Mother's footsteps.

5. How do you stand out that got you one of your clan's coveted spots at the Rainbow Games? Choose one skill and add 3 ranks. If this takes it above 3, redistribute extra ranks as standard. This skill must be one with an event at the Rainbow games, as discussed with ND ||

(Theology) I am a gifted diviner and naturally receive visions even when I’m not performing a divination—though the visions are more accurate when I’m working towards a divination specifically.

6. What does your character long for, and how might this impede their duty:

I want to be able to be with the one I love, not the one they say I have to marry.

7. What is your relationship with your clan?

They don't believe in me at all. I used to think I could somehow make them proud of me, but I've realized they don't see me as anything but a failure, and consider my only value as being part of an advantageous marriage alliance. Still I have my pride, and I'm going to be a good Crane, whether or not it's the way they want me to be. (+1 skulduggery)

8. What do you think of Bushido?

Bushido misses so many of the important things in life. It forgets to let people be people, and live actual lives. (+1 Survival)

9. What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

I mean I won the Rainbow Games with my prophecy. In Nezumi. Which, I might add, I *don't speak*. So that was neat. That felt good, at least. And that was just the start of my legend. Yeah, right. (Prophetic Trances(Void))

10. What holds you back most in life?

Minku would probably joke about my bad handwriting. Who needs good handwriting in the age of computers and text messages, I ask you? But no. No, I'm just...scared of pretty much everything. It's not like the world hasn't thrown more and more terrible at me. Are you really paranoid if everything *is* out to get you, and the world is actively changing to make things harder? I can't help being scared, it's terrifying to be me!

11. What activity makes you feel most at peace?

While I enjoy reading my trashy fave historical romance series about Nozomi Hohoemi and Bayushi Tabi, and I love playing with my cat Kuro-chan, the time when I am most at peace is when I read the cards. It stops all the anxiety for just a little while...

12. Who have you learned most from during your life?

My Grandma on Mom's side. She's the best. I don't much enjoy Uncle and Auntie (Dad's side) trying to get me to dye my hair white and be a good little potential bride. Grandma taught me to dress and look how I like, and helped me realize that I'm a total hottie. (Dangerous Allure)

13. What troubles you most? I'm not very tall and so I always have to ask for help reaching high up things and I can't see over crowds or anything. I'm not so short that it's actually helpful in hiding or anything though.

14. What do people notice first when they encounter you? Red hair like mine stands out, and I also dress pretty traditionally in Ra'Shari fashion. I think some of the Ra'Shari traditions about women and women's bodies should be re-examined, but I actually like long skirts and colorful clothes, so it evens out! I have some old accessories that used to belong to Mom, like this kerchief...

15. How do you react to stressful situations?

Everything is a stressful situation! Seriously though, I get really really anxious really really fast and start having panic attacks, or I want to cry, or I can't stop imagining the worst possible outcomes...

16. What are your preexisting relationships with other clans, families, organizations and traditions

-Lion: You know, I grew up thinking the whole feud thing between us and the Lion was pretty dumb, but no. They're terrifying. They must be stopped. How do they live like that?

-Crab: You hear things, but it’s something else entirely to visit the Crab in their own lands. I wasn’t exactly unwelcome there, given the Nezumi language prophecies I gave, but I did fuck around and very nearly found out, and everyone kinda got mad at me. I…don’t really regret it. I can become a mother now, with children of my own. Minku’s my best friend though, and she’s Nezumi, so it’s not like they’re all jerks or anything, they just don’t have patience for your bullshit.

-Scorpion: They tried to frame me for a murder I didn’t commit, and apparently the banning of the practice that led to the Shadow hasn’t actually resulted in any of them not trying to use them. Pricks. I still don’t understand Soshi Shinju—It was never clear if he liked me and was trying to be helpful in his way, or if he despised me and would have been glad his frame-up worked. I’m not the biggest fan, needless to say.

-Dragon: Kitsuki Umi's my boss, and my friend. I haven't really met any other Dragon to compare with, though I hear they can be pretty enigmatic.

-Phoenix: Shinji is a Phoenix. I'd love to be able to visit their Great Library and study with them, and of course, if I got to marry Shinji I could join them...

-Orochi: Never met one. Supposed to be pretty chill, though.

-Unicorn: I kinda hoped they'd be more like us Ra'Shari, but they really aren't the same at all.

16. How would your parents describe you?

Mom and Dad are...not around anymore, but I hope they'd be proud of me for being such a strong diviner and following my own heart.

17. Whatcha got from your family?

I have a tarot deck that once belonged to my mother. It is my most treasured possession.

18. What haunts your nightmares?

My nightmares are varied. My friends dying. The world ending. Falling to my death from a high place. Being lost, or being left all alone. Having the whole world riding on my shoulders and just not being enough.

19. What dreams leave you disappointed and sad when you wake because they're just a dream?

I dream about being married to Isawa Shinji and having kids and a happy life together. I'm starting to feel like the world will never let that happen, honestly.
