New Path: Samurai of the Old School [Bushi/Courtier] Replaces: Doji Courtier 4 or Kakita Bushi 5 Requirements: Courtier 5 (for Bushi), Weapon Skill 5 (for Courtier) As in days of old, you are a samurai first and a bushi or courtier second: a skilled combatant in both court and battle. As a courtier, this is a bushi path. When you gain this technique, choose bows, spears, swords, or war fans. You may make attacks as a simple action with the chosen type. In addition, when you gain this technique, you may gain a single kata for which you otherwise qualify. As a bushi, this is a courtier path. When in a disagreement or debate with an opponent, you may attempt to find a reason to challenge them over it, engaging them in a contest of Courtier(Manipulation)/Awareness vs their Etiquette(Courtesy)/Willpower. If you succeed, you issue a challenge to a duel to first blood. If you succeed while making at least one raise per insight rank of the target, it may be a duel to the death. The opponent must either accept the challenge, or back down, recant their position, and gain Bad Reputation (Coward).
