Characters begin with 22 stars, which they may use to purchase 7 primary attributes. All attributes are one star per level, and you will need to save at least one star in order to be admitted to the Duelist Kingdom. Once you are on the island, you must collect TEN stars to be admitted to throw down with Maxamillian Pegasus, creator of Duel Monsters, in an attempt to win pretty much anything you want. But you'll have to go through all your fellow duelists in order to win the chance, and you'll have to increase your deck's power through trading and wagering with your fellow players, as well as partaking of a new expansion set that is released while you're on the island. The primary two attributes that every duelist must posses are Deck and Suitcase. Each star spent on Deck gets you 20 points for your Deck, and 20 points for your Suitcase. Each star spent on Suitcase gets you 50 points for your Suitcase. Suitcase cards are used as an effective sideboard, and can be traded with your fellow players without hurting your deck at all, and when the expansion set launches, it gives you some ammunition to trade for singles with the card shops scattered around the island, instead of taking your chances with booster packs priced at a star each. Once you've determined you starting ratings for Deck and Suitcase, go to the list of Spells, Traps, and Monster cards, and begin purchasing cards for your deck. Your deck may never contain fewer than 40 cards, nor may it contain more points worth of cards than your Deck rating allows. An excellent card search engine may be located here, for full card descriptions: http://www.deckrevolution.com/mcd/index.php?game=ygo For other help, especially if you are not conversant with the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh, consult your local GM. The only major modification to the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh are the change in point costs for cards, and the restructuring of Fusion Monsters. No longer are you limited to a few set Fusions. Any two monsters may be fused via either the Polymerization card or the Fusion Gate, and such monsters will follow a set pattern established by the Duel Computer, aka the GM. Allowances will be made for effect monsters and appropriateness of fusions. Further, unlike a normal CCG, unpredictable interactions will occasionally happen between cards. These effects are entirely at the discretion of the Duel Computer, though a clever player can point out possible interactions to the GM. Now, on to the REALLY fun part. Now that you've got cards, it's time to devote Stars to the attributes that manipulate the cards. There are five attributes that manipulate the game in your favor. Heart of the Cards - 1 level per Star Each level allows you to, once per game, draw whatever card you like from the cards remaining in your deck. Cheat - 2 levels per Star Each level allow you to, once per game, draw whatever card you like from the cards remaining in your deck. BUT... your opponent gets a free (temporary) level of Heart of the Cards to use each time you do so. Draw Luck - 4 levels per Star Each level allows you to, once per game, draw a different card from one you just drew. Dice Luck - 4 levels per Star Each level allows you to, once per game, reroll a single die roll. Coin Luck - 4 levels per Star Each level allows you to, once per game, reflip a single coin. In addition to these abilities, one single special ability remains to those of you blessed enough to be invited to Duelist Kingdom. You can request from the GM a single, specific card, at character creation, a signature card that represents your character. This card will be more expensive than another card of similar abilities, but will be unique in capabilities, and nobody else will know about it until you use it. Choose wisely.
